Judith Towle-Jones is a uk artist based in Oxfordshire. She spent her childhood in Wales, on a hillside where conditions could be severe, especially in winter. Her abiding memory is one of cold, grey days, high winds and a lot of snow in winter. The regular extremes of weather led to dramatic transformations in her surroundings and she wonders if it is these early experiences which have led to her current fascination in changing conditions and how they sculpt the landscape.

Her home was sandwiched between the Welsh Coalfield

to the south and the beauty and splendour of the Brecon Beacons National Park to the north, which she describes as 'another world'

On weekends my siblings and I were taken for trips into this magical world full of gently wooded slopes, dramatic peaks and colour!

The marked contrast between these two environments held a fascination for her from an early age and she believes they played a significant part in forging her passion for painting.and her interest in landscapes in particular.

Throughout her early years Judith sketched and painted and she studied Art at school. However, despite this early interest, she ultimately trained as a scientist. Her art master warned that she may regret this decision and she says his words often come back to haunt her!  On moving to Oxfordshire some years ago, she decided to heed his advice to devote more time to her passion. She says, painting for her is now a way of life and she cannot imagine any other.
